We recently interviewed Andrew Baker owner of the Wild Peacock Food Emporium and Restaurant in Stellenbosch and MD of Wine Worx. Andrew has used Le Verre de Vin for over seven years. He gives us an inside view of why having a Le Verre de Vin wine preservation system is so key to his business.
When we asked Andrew what his motivation was in looking at a system like Le Verre de Vin, he answered : “Being passionate about wine and stocking a large range of wines, I wanted a facility offering as big a selection of top wines as possible, by the glass, to my clients.”
The obvious next question was – “What convinced you that the Le Verre de Vin system would work for you?” To which Andrew replied: “Frankly, when I started there was little else that fitted the bill for what I was looking for, at a cost effective price with a proven track record. Le Verre de Vin has that and has been proved by its usage and success around Europe. Bearing in mind that his system was installed over seven years ago – it would seem that Le Verre de Vin remains a world-class solution.
Andrew has also found that the benefits of having a Le Verre de Vin system include the flexibility of showing off numerous wines by the glass, especially in these times of “drinking and driving” awareness, as well as giving them an advantage over their competitors.
Andrew feels that it is difficult to correlate a direct increase in profit as a result of using Le Verre de Vin but is aware that the fact that they can offer a bigger range of wine by the glass attracts a bigger and more appreciative audience. This must have an indirect link to the profitability of the business. A further advantage is they sell 4 glasses of wine at the same price as a bottle which encourages patrons to experiment with different wines.
At the Wild Peacock Food Emporium and Restaurant Andrew finds that there is very little wine wastage and once a wine is two weeks old, they use the remaining wine in the restaurant kitchen.
We asked Andrew if he would recommend Le Verre de Vin. And he said yes – based on the amazing reliability of the equipment. “I have had mine for nearly 10 years with very little faults.”
In conclusion, Andrew has this to share: “Using this product creates a huge competitive advantage. Buy the machine so that you as a restaurateur have control of your own destiny rather than letting a winery or supplier supply it and decide what you serve through it!
